Principal - Orangeville Christian School

Orangeville Christian School (OCS) is looking for a Principal who is a devoted Christ-Follower, a strong leader, with a passion for Christian Education, who will work with the Board and Community to develop a commitment to the Mission and Vision of OCS.

OCS is a Christ-centered school which strives to nurture children through quality, Christ-centred learning within a caring environment supported by a dedicated, interdenominational community.  OCS was founded in 1979 and has grown to a school of 175 students from JK to Gr 8 drawn, from over 20 church communities.  

The Principal must be a strong and effective leader, with the demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a staff of approximately 10 teachers, 3 educational assistants and 2 administrative assistants.

Expansion is likely for our school in the mid-term future, and we hope for this to be completed in strategic stages to enable us to have a facility, staff, and curriculum to support upwards of 300 students in the coming years.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

Spiritual Leadership

  • Must have a personal and public belief that God is the God of all life; that we are all broken sinners, and that we can only be made whole through the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; submitting to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
  • Be of good Christian character – demonstrate the fruits of the spirit in their life and seek God, exemplifying compassion, integrity and courage.

Board Leadership

  • A demonstrated ability to work collectively, and in relationship with the Board; having strong communication skills, is able to articulate the vision, mission and direction of OCS.
  • Be able to run the day-today operation of OCS within the boundaries set by the OCS Board and the Policies; ability to listen, discern, understand, be empathetic, yet confident and assured enough to make and enforce tough decisions.

Staff Employment Leadership

  • Must be a team leader / team builder, able to draw on the individual strengths of the staff to forge the teachers and staff into a unified team, all working to a common goal with a common vision.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to personally invest in, mentor, motivate and encourage teachers and staff to engage in continual growth, development and improvement.

Learning & Student Well-Being Leadership

  • Must demonstrate a commitment to Christian education and demonstrate that a Christian perspective in education is vital to development to the children who attend OCS; has a proven commitment to curriculum evaluation, development, and currency.
  • Have a strong love of children – be an engaging individual who children gravitate to, and who genuinely likes being around children, watching and helping them learn.

Financial Leadership

  • Possess proven financial leadership and administrative skills, with the ability to manage and make recommendations on budget decisions and analysis in step with the OCS Treasurer and Finance Committee.
  • Is a responsible steward of the financial resources of the school; operates and leads with integrity in engaging and recruiting donors, volunteers, and fundraising activities.

Facility Leadership

  • Holds a high standard for facility/property function and maintenance ensuring that Committees, processes, contracts, technology, and volunteer expectations are met to ensure the OCS learning environment is in top shape for our students, staff and families.

Community Leadership

  • Must be a community builder – community on many levels: our greater community (OCS Vision); our OCS community, OCS Society, parents, students, teachers, staff.

Other Attributes

  • Hold a University degree, preferably from a Christian University. Hold (or be working toward) an M.Ed. (Curriculum or Administration).
  • Will have been a teacher in a Christian School – preferably with experience in various grades. Will hold a CSTC and have obtained a CSPC, and come with Principal / Interim Principal experience.
  • Be aware of the current social climate
