OYAP
Providing students in independent secondary schools the opportunity to pursue a trade.
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) offers the opportunity for eligible high school students to do a co-operative education placement in any one of over 140 designated skilled trades in Ontario. As of 2021, independent high schools can offer this program to their students through an agreement between Edvance and the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development (MLTSD).
Services Offered to Ontario Independent Schools
- WSIB coverage for participating students
- Safety training for participating students, including WHMIS, WAH, PEWP, and CPR/First Aid
- Assistance locating qualified employers
- Registration with the MLTSD
- Support, resources, and materials for co-op teachers to promote and administer OYAP at their school
