John Knox Christian School in Wyoming welcomes applicants for a grade eight teacher.   Wyoming is a small town located in the hub of Lambton County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada.  For over 65 years we have served families within our county who desire for their children to be educated in a Christian learning environment where all that is done is rooted in the word of God, the Bible. John Knox is a member of the Edvance Christian Schools Association and is an independent Christian School. Our history and basis has roots in the Reformed protestant tradition. 

We are seeking an intermediate teacher to lead the learning for our grade eight students.  The position is currently open, and will begin as soon as the candidate is able.  This is considered a full-time position. The contract will end on July 30th, 2025, and is eligible for renewal upon completion.   The hourly pay is from $23-$35 depending on years of experience and teaching credentials.  The wage is paid as a yearly salary. Health benefits are provided through the Christian School Benefit Program. Applicants need to possess an undergraduate bachelor's degree, a post graduate degree in education (Bachelor of Ed or equivalent) and a provincial teaching licence (a teaching/educational licence from another state or country will also be accepted.)  

We are looking for an applicant who has experience in teaching the upper elementary grades with teachables in science and math.  The teacher should present themselves as a confident leader and clear communicator. The ability to share their Christian faith and apply this faith to all aspects of learning is also necessary. The candidate must be proficient in English.

Professional Responsibilities: 

• Understand and support the school’s mission and aims
  

•  Understand and model team play; is supportive of colleagues and is ready to  share knowledge and accept assistance 

• Be a positive Christian role model, to all the students of the school demonstrating Christ-like character in words and actions

Program Responsibilities:

• be familiar with the course of study and the required materials
  

• articulate and demonstrate the application of Christian perspective

• Demonstrate interest in and mastery of required subject matter
  

• Strengths in key areas, specifically science and math

Classroom Management:

•  Show good understanding of the role of physical surroundings in creating positive Christian classroom atmosphere

• Show vigilance in small misbehaviours or off-task tendencies 

• Develop and reinforce clear procedures for routines and behaviours 

Planning, Testing, Reporting: 

• Organize well for lesson planning; plan effectively for student success
  

• Monitor special needs of students experiencing difficulty learning
  

• Test effectively for knowledge, understanding, and integration of faith
  

  
  

• Adapt content and methodology to facilitate student achievement 

• Record and organize assessment data for the completion of term report cards

Develop and Maintains Positive Learning Environment: 

•  Use Christ-centered discipline in accordance with John Knox procedures

• Communicate high expectations through clear instructions, written or verbal, in daily work and especially in project work

•  Foster and facilitate good student – student and student – teacher relationships in the classroom

•  Participate by leading extra curricular coaching and clubs
  
  

Overall your duties are to be a classroom teacher that is an effective Christian role model, who is confident and clear in expressing Christian faith. Your duty is to demonstrate care and compassion for students and show an interest in their academic growth and learning.
