Strathroy Community Christian School recognizes that many factors contribute to a student’s learning and is seeking an individual with a background in social work, child and youth services, or counselling that can connect with and support the social, emotional, and mental needs of our students. This position is a temporary role for two days per week, starting in April and carrying on to the end of this current school year. This person would work closely with staff, students, and families to educate, advocate, and support in a variety of situations. This role is evidence of the school’s vision to educate the whole student, mind, body, and spirit, and recognize that each person is unique and created in God’s image. The Student Support Worker will be a member of The Bridge resource team and work closely with the Principal.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Communicate openly with the Principal and The Bridge team
- Build rapport with students
- Advocate for students
- Manage individual student cases and crisis intervention
- Counselling individuals or groups
- Liaise with community professionals
- Connect families to community resources
- Use a team approach with staff and parents to problem solve and provide appropriate services
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and training
- Consult with staff and parents in meetings or one on one
- Abide by school, provincial and professional governing body requirements regarding documenting, confidentiality and maintenance of the OSR
- Follow provincial and school guidelines for reporting incidents of abuse

Requirements:
- Related educational experience (social work, social service, child & youth counselling, etc)
- Familiarity with public, private, and government agencies an asset
- Strong biblical worldview and understanding of human complexities in relation to who we are as God’s creation
- Passion for understanding and bringing hope and healing to the lives of children
- Ability to collaborate, advise, and advocate with teachers and parents on behalf of students
- Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations
