Levels/Subjects: Multiple positions available, Pre-primary to Grade 7, likely split classes. Part-time applicants welcome.

About Frassati Academy: Frassati Academy is an independent, classically-inspired Catholic elementary school located within the Campbell Centre at St. Agnes church of Good Shepherd Parish in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Opening its doors in September 2025, the Academy is dedicated to providing a Christ-centered education that nurtures the development of the whole person — body, mind and soul.

Its mission is to form hearts and minds through an academically excellent curriculum that is rooted in the Church's rich spiritual and intellectual heritage. Children will be encouraged in their pursuit of charity, virtue and faith, all for the greater glory of God. Frassati Academy is a community initiative which respects and upholds the role of parents as primary educators of their children. Parents are thus encouraged to have an active role and presence in the school.

Position Summary: A teacher at Frassati Academy is first and foremost a joyful witness to Christ and a faithful Catholic who supports the mission of the school through classroom teaching and student formation. Teachers at the Academy are responsible for cultivating a love of learning and a deep sense of wonder in students, while maintaining a learning environment that upholds the dignity of each child. Teachers will work collaboratively with colleagues under the leadership of the Principal to form students in mind, body and soul.

Key Responsibilities:

Spiritual

  • Model and uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church, integrating Gospel values into all aspects of classroom life.
  • Lead the classroom in prayer and foster a culture of reverence as well as joy in the practice of the faith.
  • Encourage, and participate in, the liturgical life of the school community as well as service opportunities.

Academic

  • Teach assigned subjects using a classical and integrated approach that reflects the school’s Catholic identity and academic goals.
  • Prepare and deliver lessons that are engaging, challenging and developmentally appropriate.
  • Use effective pedagogical strategies and assessments to support student learning and growth. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and school-wide initiatives.
  • Provide regular communication with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.

Professional

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development and school events.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that is orderly, respectful and conducive to learning. 
  • Support school policies and contribute positively to the overall life of the school.
  • Ensure accurate recording of student performance and attendance as required.
  • Assist with maintaining the daily school operations as a shared space with the parish, including scheduling.
  • Work within your classroom’s budget ensuring financial sustainability.

The Ideal Candidate 

  • Active, practicing Catholic fully committed to the teachings, sacramental life and mission of the Church. This person's vibrant and dynamic faith is visibly lived out with an enthusiasm to continue to grow and develop to the "full stature of Christ" (Eph 4:13).
  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree (an Education-related degree is an asset)
  • Certified or eligible for certification with the Nova Scotia Department of Education is an asset.
  • Experience in teaching, preferably in a classical or Catholic educational setting, is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic theology and tradition.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and classroom management skills.
  • Love of learning and a desire to inspire the same in students.
