The candidate must be a born again Christian who demonstrates integrity and faith with a passion for Christ-centred education who attends and is actively involved in a local church.
Burlington Christian Academy (BCA) is a biblically based, award-winning private Christian Elementary school located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. A beautiful conservation area surrounds the 25,000 square foot education facility, providing the students with access to hiking trails and outdoor learning opportunities. Over 160 students in grades JK through 8 partake in one of the most progressive educational programs in Southern Ontario.
Along with a strong academic heritage, BCA offers many extra-curricular programs, including athletics, music, and drama.
BCA follows the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum and is a member of Association of Christian Schools International Easter Canada (ACSIEC) and Edvance Christian Schools Association.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers

Principal Qualifications Part I and II

Have demonstrated experience with Special Education policies and procedures or completion of Special Education Part I
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

Bible based training

Have successful experience as a Vice Principal demonstrating proven leadership effectiveness in the school community;

Master’s degree (or working towards one)

Christian School Principal Certification (CSPC)

Five years of successful classroom teaching experience

Principal’s Job Description
The principal serves as the primary leader of the school. The principal uses the approved school policies to shape the school culture and manage the day to day activities for Burlington Christian Academy (BCA). The principal reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Spiritual and School Leadership:
- Lead and promote the spiritual growth of staff and students including daily devotionals
- Establish and maintain a Christian culture in the school, creating a welcoming and safe environment for students
- Uphold the aims and purposes of the school’s Constitution and Bylaws
- Attend to the administration of the school as required by the laws of the province and by the official school policies as approved by the Board of Directors
- Keep records of student progress, of admissions, transfers and retirements
- Present a Principal’s report for all regular board meetings.
- Work closely with the board chair to lead the board in pursuit of the school’s vision and purpose.
- Partner with parents to ensure every student reaches their God given potential
- Build and maintain a cohesive and positive team of staff members
- Lead the BCA community in creating a culture of respect and concern for each student
Educational Leadership:
- Develop and encourage strategies that ensure staff are current and diligent in program delivery
- Ensure Ontario Curriculum standards are being met by teachers
- Manage and update an effective student evaluation and reporting policy
- When employee vacancies occur, oversee the search for high quality personnel, conduct the interviews and make appropriate recommendations to the Board
- Provide for the mentoring, training, support, and monitoring of new staff
- Implement the Board policy for the appointment and termination of staff
- Provide oversight in best instructional practices to teachers
Administrative and Financial Leadership:
- Encourage efficient, professional and financially responsible operation of the school office
- Oversee the development and maintenance of an annual calendar, schedule and school handbook
- Conduct classroom observation regularly and provide feedback to teachers regarding their performance
- Collaborate with faculty for curriculum development and continuous improvement
- Handle grievances of all faculty and staff
- Ensure implementation of Staff Contracts
- Assign and organise staff to achieve the school’s mission/strategic plan
- Conduct regular staff meetings to discuss school programs and procedures
- Ensure staff have access to appropriate and sufficient learning resources
- Promote an active volunteer program, attend PTA meetings
- Oversee the School of the Arts (SOTA) program, and Senior Programs, arrange staffing and registration package
- Ensure an up to date website
- Ensure that the facilities are inviting, neat, clean and well maintained
- Understand the expectations and needs of the clients
- Arrange Town Hall Meetings
- Direct, manage and supervise the daily operations of the school
- Understand the financial framework and the school budget
Student Safety and Wellness Leadership:
- Provide for the safety, welfare and health of all students
- Develop and enforce the school’s restorative discipline policy and standards of behaviour which are clearly defined, regularly taught and enforced as necessary
- Ensure the maintenance of current and complete records of student behaviour incidents and documentation regarding the communication with parents regarding these matters.
- Direct students and/or parents to appropriate guidance and counselling resources in the community
- Ensure staff and students are implementing safety and conduct policies
Professional Development Leadership:
- Encourage spiritual and academic growth of faculty and staff through in-service, conferences, workshops and Additional Qualification (AQ) courses
- Remain professionally competent by engaging in professional reading, attend conferences and enrol in courses that enhance professional development
- Stay current with and challenge staff to incorporate a variety of teaching methods and tools
- Promote professional growth through the implementation of teacher performance appraisals
- Oversee staff professional development and maintain high instructional standards
Community Leadership:
- Oversee Social Media program and community advertising
- Maintain regular timely communication with BCA families through weekly newsletters and regular messaging as appropriate
- Be available for consultation and guidance for students, teachers and parents
- Encourage community involvement in the school
- Build relationships with local churches
