King’s Christian Collegiate is seeking to fill a one-year maternity leave for teaching high school art, starting in August 2026.
An ideal candidate:

- has experience combining strong technical skills and instructional strategies with the relational care needed for student discovery, imagination, play, and artistic appreciation and growth
- possesses the talent, wisdom, and ability to teach students how to find meaning through the visual world, deepen understandings of the principles and elements of design, observe and honour beauty, while having fun contributing to the world of ideas through a creative process that is intentionally paired with a growing awareness of our Creator God and what it means that humans are made in His image
Necessary skills:
- Instructional design—strong planning, clear goals and directions, modelling, mixed modalities, thoughtful delivery, varied strategies for rigour and critical thinking, engagement and enjoyment, and adaptiveness for education that is aligned with the school’s priority of teaching Christianly and the Ontario curriculum
- Depth and breadth of art specialization—connecting art history and foundational elements to contemporary times, fostering awe for the expanse of what humans have created and are creating to communicate ideas, draw interest, and evoke emotions
- Ability to develop students’ process, practice, and productivity—modelling and teaching artistic intent, planning, skills and techniques in a variety of mediums
- Excellent communication—conveying deep respect for all parties, care is clear, effective written and verbal skills, using (or interested to learn) a skillset for coaching conversations, strong record-keeping, detailed human feedback and evaluation that is regular, timely, and constructive
- Growth mindset—eager to understand our distinct approaches to learning and school culture while continuing to develop as a Christian professional, comfortable with considered risks for the sake of improving learning, enthusiastic R & D participant
- Read the room—honour the human endeavour of learning, meet diverse learners where they are at and foster curiosity, belonging, and engagement while discerning when to differentiate for individual learners or adjust classroom management
- Wise and adept technology use—keen to uphold digital well-being in the classroom; discerning when technology can powerfully deepen and enhance learning
- Team player—humble, hungry, smart as a colleague and contributor to the school
- Organization and tidiness—attentive to upholding an effective learning space, ordering and managing supplies
- Basic budgeting—setting a vision for each class and planning a generous budget to maximize possibilities while stewarding resources with care

This is a one-year maternity leave term contract for the 2026-27 school year; the full or part-time nature of the role will be discussed in person. Depending on experience and credentials, the anticipated full-time teacher salary range for this role is $60,000 to $100,000. (If part-time, the rate will be pro-rated.)
